backing up
I’ve been ‘assigned’ the task of tracking/updating/maintaining our current backup situation here at TSC/SLSD. As part of that ongoing project, I have been given a server to make my own! I am in the process of making said server into a virtual machine host containing several (two thus far) virtual machines. David and I discovered the ‘magic keystroke’ which allows one to attach an .iso image to the virtual machine to load the OS. Any normal attempts to make this particular feature work failed, but when we started just randomly bangin’ on the keys – it worked!! Go figure.
So far this has been an interesting geek-project in that the tools to mange the server only work in windows – something lacking in my work area. So, armed with VMware Fusion, I now have windows running on my MacBook. Within this ‘virtual OS’ I can now run the VMware management client. Only thing is – certain keys in the VMware window overlap MacBook system keys and the MacBook keys always take precedence. Makes for some very trying moments when I’m trying to F10 to save the bios settings in my VMware client window and the MacBook is switching windows back and forth instead. Ah the sometime joys of technology…
