A big “Thank You!” to all of the Dorena families, staff and students for making me feel so warm and welcome. This is an incredible place and I feel fortunate to be here!
Things are going “swimmingly” at Dorena – literally!
Our classes are in the middle of our swimming rotation. The students all express how much fun they are having as they learn skills that will keep them safe in and around water. Along the lines of good health, the Dental Foundation of Oregon’s Tooth Taxi will be visiting the Dorena area Nov. 12th -15th, 2013. They will service as many students as they can for free during their 4 day visit. The positive impacts of these services are immeasurable!
Parent conferences were a great guide for renewed commitment to academic growth. Staff reported a good turnout of parents and families at our fall conferences. If you weren’t able to get in for a conference, call and make an appointment! We still want to visit with you and share the progress your student is making!
Academics are buzzing right along, and our teachers are navigating the new science curriculum. New materials are exciting and we will keep you posted on how it’s going throughout the year. A new math program at Dorena School is Moby Math. This is a web-based math program that combines a placement feature for determining a starting point for students, with progress monitoring, targeted lessons, practice, and assessment. Early reports indicate that the program is intuitive and easier to navigate than previous programs. Math improvement is one of our school goals! And of course we continue our reading interventions for those in need, and promotion of high-interest, challenging reading for all of our students.
My door is always open, so please feel free to drop in and introduce yourself or to say hello.
